I have a thing for these vehicular combat games, as in those that you use miniguns and rocket launchers, instead of being Mario Kart style.

This one takes the cake for being among one of the more fun combat games from the past few years, although it's a bit glitchy at times. For being a title made by a small independent studio, the graphics were pretty good, and there was a lot of attention to detail, body parts fell off with damage, and the weapons behaved like they should. It was published by Atari back in 2006.

I even installed a Mad Max inspired mod that replaced the default cars with American malaise era cars, outfitted for war. Also included with that mod, cars such as a Countach, Checker Cab, and a Mack truck could also be fighting each other (you could clearly see the winner here).

Crashday was full of add-ons, many of which were crappy, but there were plenty of well made ones among those, that Mad Max one was among the best.

It's a bit of shame that there aren't many examples of this type of game, stuff along the lines of Vigilante 8 and Twisted Metal. The closest that I've seen is Gas Guzzlers, but it just doesn't get the vibes of the older games. It's also a shame that newer Hot Wheels games suck, after making them more "kid friendly", making them look like toys in the real world, instead of fantasizing a full-size car in a fictional realm. (Velocity X came out over 10 years ago now, and I say this was the best Hot Wheels game, beside Planet Hot Wheels, which was an MMO).

Does anyone else enjoy these types of games, that include car mounted machine guns and stuff?

I did, but then Auto Assault got shut down, and my broken heart aches any time I do from that point on.

That said, I'd drown puppies for a new Interstate 76.

Interstate 76 was awesome, I played so little of it though... I'd love to see a new Street Rod as well.

My real dream game is a new Motor City Online. Such a great game for people like us, such a bad game for people who aren't. The upgrade system was pretty much ordering from a virtual Year One or Jeg's catalog. If you didn't know what was the appropriate cam geometry or carb size for your engine, you'd be in tears.

Never heard of that one, but I'm a big fan of Blur (not the band, they're fucking terrible) - its a few years old now but its pretty much MarioKart with real world cars. Quite a mix of vehicles and track locations. I play it online quite a bit, its cool being able to drive a Defender and still have a chance of winning a race...

I tried Blur quite recently on PC (pirated, sorry), and it certainly fills the "Mario Kart with real cars" niche. I felt something was missing from the core game when I played it, maybe it was the feel of PGR4. I also beat the game in singleplayer fairly easily.

Yeah, single player isn't all that - but the multiplayer is seriously hectic. The odd vehicle choices in it are fun too, like the Transit Supervan.

A new MCO wouldn't be my perfect game, it would be my perfect life. How did I forget it? Haha...
